Junior Game Designer
Shadow Of A Dead Man is our 3rd year final project, you embody the owner of a mansion who has died during a stormy night, and finds himself being a kind of ghostly shadow. He must then scour his home to find his body, while avoiding the light. The game is played from a 3rd-person perspective, and relies on light and shadow to help you make your way through your environment.
Shadow Of A Dead Man
Role: Project Manager
Genre: Puzzle Game
Team: 20
Duration: 9 months / 2023-2024
Engine: Unity
What were the constraints?
The constraints for this project were:
-
Either use UE5 or Unity
-
Follow the concept chosen from among those presented by each of us at the end of the 2nd year.
The project in itself:
In this game, you start playing right after the event that caused your death.
The main mechanics are pushing/pulling an object, but this is only possible in one direction at a time, and to switch lights on and off. In order to create yourself a way through the rooms, to find out if your corpse is still here.
What did I do?
During this project I was in charge of managing the team, including the tasks and the relation/communication between the groups being in different classes.
It was also a means of maintaining the direction of the project, allocating the different roles and creating the documentation to make everyone's work easier.
I worked with the different members to understand their needs and the project's ones.
Here are a few examples of the tasks I had to handle throughout the project:
I organized playtest sessions, to get feedbacks about the level design, the user interface, the sounds, etc..
And share task needs between each groups, via asset lists, emails or answering questions, by keeping myself available and informed for the whole team.
The different game loops, and some research using player profiles sorting such as Tondello's hexad scale users Type, or Lazzaro's & Leblanc's types of fun or Quantic's Foundry motivations type. To find corresponding way to please each type people, and know what would be addable or not.
